And I won’t let anyone tell me otherwise.
I don’t even know what the story is behind the game, I just enjoy driving around the map, finding the hidden cars, messing around. The Map is so much more diverse than anything else I’ve played (Aside from the crew 2 maybe) Also the customiz ability is by far the best of any current game, you can modify just about anything on the car it seems. And the details as far as dirt and whatever collecting on the cars is way beyond the crew 2, and maybe even Horizon 3 levels. Graphics even are good, no lack of detail to cars and environment around you that I’ve noticed.
It’s a damn shame its physics are terrible , I hate doing races. All the cars want to do is drift around corners and that’ s the only way to win races it seems, you can’t win unless you slide around trying to carry all your speed. Play it like you play a sim, or Forza 7 or similar, you just get passed and blown away by the other cars, unless you turn difficulty down maybe. If it wasn’t for the driving physics I would play this game endlessly. I hope that eventually the developers come around and stop this trend of drifting is winning on NFS.
There has been discussion from EA asking people what they think the best NFS game was. Which I only can hope means that they will go back and see what made those so great and go back to that era and recreate it as best they can on the current generation. I can’t find any of the posts on Reddit, or twitter where they did this, but I remember the favor leaning to the old Most Wanted and definitely to Underground era games, which Underground was the first game I actually played the career of. So that game has some sentimental value for me at least.
Until they do that, I’ll play Horizon, and the crew, hoping they actually fix the physics of the current NFS games, and do something great.

I stopped playing Payback months ago, just too many other games to play. I was even using my steering wheel & pedals, which were actually fairly decent to drive with in the game. I ought to go back to it and at least finish up the story. But it took me a long time to finally get through the story in NFS 2015, too.

I’m okay with drifting in an arcade-like game because it reminds me of the arcade cabinet games like Cruisin’ USA and Daytona USA where it was drift or lose. That said, the lack of car balancing is hampering the game. Right now the OP cars of choice are the vintage 911 or the Regera.

Yeah, like if there was the option to not slide everywhere outside of a drift even I would be happy.
Or just some way of making it so I don’t need to slide about, that’s my only real hangup. The story is entirely terrible but no racing game has ever had a good story outside of the run.

I finished the 2015 NFS in a weekend. That game was terrible, the whole premise was just annoying, and I couldn’t get behind the story.
I may be getting a wheel and pedal soon, finding the right setup and making sure I have the money are my only hang ups

I really enjoyed the gameplay of 2015. The story and live-action acting were pretty t errible , but good for a laugh at least.
I honestly can’t say 2015's story is any worse than what I’ve seen of Payback’s so far . But it hasn’t made me laugh nearly as much as 2015.

Even then the Run’s story was kinda meh. All action but I never really rooted for the protagonist...I just wanted to kill that asshole that kept trying to kill him. Best story? The original Need for Speed: Most Wanted. “This asshole took your sweet M3 GTR...now go beat up all his friends, take their rides, and take what’s yours...and FUCK that asshole cop!”

I’m not sure why, but I prefered the Run over MW, it just felt like there was more to lose I guess, like if you never got the car back no biggie, but the run you lose you die.

I’ve done the bare minimum on Payback, I just don’t wanna deal with the cringe.

The run was awesome because I’ve been to 99% of the places there and it was super bizarre recognizing things from real live in a vidyagaem

For me, the Need for Sp eed Franchise was at its best with “Porsche Unleashed.” The car handling felt like a good mix of arcade-y forgiveness about it, but the physics felt like they really rewarded you with the ability to go fast if you knew what you were doing. The ability to fix up and re-sell cars for extra cash meant that you never had to grind races over and over for spare cash, and the ‘factory driver’ career mode felt different and fresh compared to what other racing games were offering.
Really the only major downside was the focus on one manufacturer; if you didn’t get excited by at least some of Porsche’s catalog of cars , there wasn’t much of anything for you.

I’ve liked playing Payback, but I agree that the handling is pretty wonky at times. Also, the story is utter garbage.
